This waterfall is also known as “Bridal Fall” for its water falls down in the shape of a veil of a bride.
The beauty of the falls is marked by its spraying water that creates smoke while it falls down. As the word “Dum” suggests “Mist”, it is believed that the waterfall got its name for this reason.

The Jungle Path
You will have to take a jungle path for about 1.5 km until you reach the falls. The path makes its way through a jungle of lush green. Your safety is assured with wooden and iron handrails to support your walk through the jungle path.
You will love the sound of natural water streams alongside the path. You will also get to see quite a number of monkeys on your way. However, the path is safe for the travelers and you will enjoy the company of the locals too.
The path is not isolated. There are many shops alongside the path selling souvenirs, Sri Lankan handicrafts, rare herbs, delicious Sri Lankan Street food and drinks and so on.

There is a viewing platform built safe and sound, close to the waterfall from where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the waterfall surrounded by the green jungle paradise.

How to reach Dunhinda Falls
It is 5km away from Badulla town of the Uva Province, off Badulla - Mahiyangana road. You can either take a bus or a tuk tuk from Badulla town to the entrance gate of the Falls.
Your destination is located around 1.5 km walking distance from the main road. A footpath through the beautiful jungle leads the way.
Best time to visit Dunhinda Falls
This beautiful falls is worth a visit throughout the year. Morning is the best time for nature lovers. However, you can visit the Falls anytime during the day since the surrounding is well sheltered with trees.
During heavy rains, visitors usually find it difficult to walk on the jungle path since the path gets muddy at certain points. Hence, it is advisable to refrain from visiting during heavy rains.
Facts of Dunhinda Falls
This amazing Falls originates from Badulu Oya and finds its way through huge mountains passing Ella Gap as well. It is 63m in height and 100% worth a visit.
This waterfall gets its misty appearance when falling to the basin at the bottom due to having a shorter distance to fall compared to the massive volume of water it carries. This makes it so special and you can capture the misty atmosphere in the background of your beautiful snaps.
Entrance Fee , Parking and Open Hours
This attraction is open for visitors throughout the day and you will have to buy an entrance ticket of a negligible amount. A parking area is available.
Tips
Relaxed clothing will make your trekking experience a comfortable one. Huge backpacks would be troublesome. I would carry only a small water bottle and my camera.
